BOAT RENTALS

Rent a Boston Whaler and explore the coves and bays around Friday Harbor. Visit nearby Turn Island State Park and hike the nature trails, study the tide pools, catch some sun on the beach, have a picnic. Check out the inner harbor, Shipyard Cove, Jensen 's Shipyard, the Washington Marine Labs. Visit Lopez Island, and go ashore in search of lunch at one of the restaurants. Go crabbing or fishing. Or just get out in the main channel, and let the current carry you. Our 22 ' Whaler has a cuddy cabin, and can be even used for overnight accommodations. Our fleet of Boston Whalers are safe, easy to drive, and fun. If you would like some instruction in boating in these waters, we have USCG Captains available for training and familiarization with our waters.

Rent a Stabicraft, and you can circumnavigate San Juan Island. Go to the West Side and maybe see the Orca whales. Visit San Juan County Park. Dock at the National Park pier at British Camp and explore the historic site of the Pig War. Then, continue on to Roche Harbor for lunch. These aluminum chambered boats are built in New Zealand, for use in the open ocean. They are extremely safe, fast, easy to drive and comfortable.

KAYAK RENTALS

The San Juan Islands are a premiere destination for sea kayakers. If you are new to kayaking, or want to try a new kayaking experience, we rent the unique Hobie Mirage Drive kayaks. The Hobie kayaks are stable, unsinkable, easy to operate, and FAST. These boats can be paddles as a conventional kayak, or they can be propelled with the hands-free Hobie Mirage Drive, a pedal drive system that operates underwater wings, and propels the kayak in a straight line and much faster than you could paddle. In addition, the pedal drive is quiet, and dripless. And, if you want to try another method of propulsion, we even have electric Torqeedo drive systems.

Kayak fishing is becoming quite popular, and for good reason. When fishing from a kayak, you are on the water, and much more connected to the environment than when fishing in a boat. We rent Hobie Pro Angler fishing kayaks, and will help you try out this great sport. Some people use an electric drive to get out to the fishing grounds, and then switch to the hands-free Mirage Drive for trolling while fishing.

DUFFY ELECTRIC BOAT RENTALS

Rent one of our Duffy Electric boats, and take an entire group out for a delightful cruise. The Duffys are fully enclosed, with soft cushioned seating around a central dinette. If it 's a bit cool, turn on the electric heaters, put your favorite CD or MP3 on the stereo, set out the appetizer platter, and pour the wine. Now, settle back and silently glide through the harbor, or even inside the Port docks. The silent electric drive allows conversation and socializing while exploring the harbor and nearby waters.

SAILBOAT RENTALS AND INSTRUCTION

New this year, we rent several sailboats for daysailing adventures, and sailing instructions. Our ASA certified staff instructors can teach you to sail, and also teach you about the local cruising grounds.

MARINE REPAIR SERVICES

Friday Harbor Marine offers year-round Boat Watch and maintenance services, as well as on-call marine repair services during the cruising season. Our ABYC certified marine technicians repair diesel fuel and cooling systems, marine electrical and electronics, heating, cooling, sanitary and potable water, sailboat rigging and other miscellaneous boat systems. We offer a repair slip for boats up to 40 ', located on our docks on the east side of the fuel pier. We stock an assortment of marine repair parts and supplies, as well as batteries and electrical components. Emergency parts can be obtained next day, or even same day using an express service from Seattle. Our goal is to get you back on the water as soon as possible, so we are available 24 hours a day, 7 day a week during the summer.

For true emergencies, we work with our partner, Towline Marine Assistance, to provide fast response, for towing services, or on water repair. If you do need a tow, Towline can bring you directly to our repair dock, which is located at the foot of Spring Street in Friday Harbor. So, even though your trip has been interrupted by a boat problem, you can still have a good time in Friday Harbor.

MARINE ACTIVITIES

Getting to Friday Harbor can be half the fun. Either you came on a ferry, winding through scenic islands, or you came by plane, landing in the harbor, or at our airport, or else you came by boat. Whichever way you came, once you get here, you want to find out what there is to do and see on the island.

We have that information, and also some offerings. If you have kids, maybe you want to do a family kayak trip to a small island. Maybe bring a naturalist along to explain the marine life and history of the area. If you have a family or corporate group, consider a clambake on the beach, watching the sunset up the channel. A floating lunch in either the kayaks, or the Duffy can fill those few hours while your car is in the ferry line. Rent our crab pots, catch some crabs, and we 'll show you how to eat them, if you are nice, we may even help you eat them. Boat to Jones Island, or Yellow Island and see the wildflowers. Rent an inflatable kayak, and go fishing in Trout Lake, or Sportsman 's Lake. Swimming in the freshwater lakes at Lakedale is a treat for the kids. Taking a bus ride around the island, and stopping off at the Winery, Roche Harbor, San Juan County Park, and other stops. Renting a moped, or a bicycle. Horseback riding. Geocaching. Frisbee golf. Kite flying. Car rental. We have lots of suggestions. Stop by our kiosk at the ferry landing ..look for the START HERE sign, or stop by our office on the lower level of Spring Street Landing.
